Course Contents: This is a senior-level undergraduate course in concurrent and distributed computing. It will expose students to theoretical as well as practical aspects of designing and implementing concurrent and distributed systems. The course assumes that the student knows programming. All programming assignments and projects will require use of Java. The course will cover concurrent and distributed programming aspects of Java; the students are expected to know the sequential aspects of Java. There will be two mid-terms and one final exam. The following topics will be covered in the course:
Grading: 30 % Assignments, 15 % Exam 1, 15% Exam 2, 15% Term project, 25 % Final Exam.
Textbook :
Concurrent and Distributed Computing in Java by Vijay K. Garg, Wiley & Sons, 2004. Note that this book is different from the ``Elements of Distributed Computing'' book.
