The Center for

RESEARCH PROGRAMS

A number of research programmes are in progress that range from design for testability, to network design. Several pages have been developed to allow for those interested to obtain more detail.

ASICs for Safety-Critical Applications

This project is for the development of guidelines for the proper designof ASICs to be used in safety-crtitical applications. The project is funded by Scottish Nuclear in association with Nuclear Electric (both UK power utilities), and the Nuclear Installations Inspectorate. A demonstrator system for a nuclear reactor trip unit using ASIC technology is being constructed. Full formal verification methods are used during the design, together with exhaustive self-test for maintenance-free operation. ASICs for Safety-Critical Applications

System Testability

This project, in conjunction with Digital Equipment Corporation at their Ayr in Scotland manufacturing plant, is concerned with the optimisation of the production system test of complex digital systems, ie in this case, large computer systems. The work has led to reduction in costs of the order of 30% whilst increasing product quality. System Testability
