Signal and Image Processing Professors

The Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at The University of Texas at Austin has twelve tenured and tenure-track professors in signal and image processing with active research groups. Signal and image processing is not a separate academic area of study, but instead cuts across six of the nine academic curriculum tracks of graduate study in the ECE department. Note that CommNetS stands for Communications, Networks, and Systems, which is one of the nine curriculum tracks. The signal and image processing faculty can be broadly categorized by their primary research interests as follows: These faculty are given below in alphabetical order.

Professor Dept. Area Research Interests
J. K. Aggarwal Computer Eng. computer vision; automatic target recognition; robotics
Jeffrey G. Andrews CommNetS advanced CDMA systems; multiuser receivers; OFDM systems; convergence of wireless LANs with cellular systems
Alan C. Bovik Computer Eng. & CommNetS digital image and video processing; wireless video; video communications; wavelets and multiscale signal processing
Brian L. Evans Computer Eng. & CommNetS multicarrier wireless communications; powerline communications; underwater acoustic communications; 3-D real-time sonar imaging; image/video display; system-level design automation
Joydeep Ghosh Computer Eng. & CommNetS adaptive signal and image processing; neural networks; intelligent systems; data analysis and mining using DSP
