Graduate Student Funding Information
I
have done the best I can to compile a list of graduate research
fellowships and other funding opportunities that might be possibilities
for students with interests matching my area. I try to keep this
information as up-to-date as possible, but I recommend you check the
sources directly for the most current information (especially about
deadlines). Programs with open deadlines are highlighted in red.
- National Science Foundation Graduate Research Fellowship Program
- Eligibility: Applicants
must be US citizens or nationals, or permanent resident aliens of the
US (see the program announcement for more information).
Applicants must also be in the early stages of graduate study
(i.e., have completed no more than 12 months of full-time graduate
study).
- Funding: 2006-2007 fellows received a $30,000 12-month stipend and a $10,500 cost of education allowance.
- Duration: maximum of three years, usable over five years.
- Application Deadline: November 9, 2005 (usually late fall of academic year preceding award)
- National Defense Science and Engineering Graduate Fellowship
- Eligibility: Applicants
must be US citizens or nationals and should be in the early stages of
graduate study. This includes college seniors intending to attend
graduate school, first year graduate students, and students early in
their second year. Students beyond the second year are allowed to
apply, but must provide additional information (see program
announcement).
- Funding: 2006-2007 fellows received a $30,500 12-month stipend and all tuition and fees.
- Duration: three consecutive years
- Application Deadline: January 6, 2006
- AT&T Labs Fellowship Program
- Eligibility: Applicants must be US citizens or permanent residents and
females or underrepresented minorities. Applicants must also be
either college seniors or in their first or second year of graduate
school.
- Funding: A $2380/month
stipend for 10-months and all education related expenses. (The
Fellowship also requires a summer internship at the labs.)
- Duration: three years
- Application Deadline: January 31 (but check on this one, with the recent mergers involving AT&T)
- DOE Computational Science Graduate Fellowship
- Eligibility: Applicants
must be US citizens or permanent residents in their first or second
year of graduate study. Applicants who are exceptional seniors
may be considered.
- Funding: 2006-2007 fellows received a $31,200 12-month stipend, and all tuition and fees.
- Duration: four years (subject to a renewal process)
- Application Deadline: January 11, 2006 (application process for the next round will open in October 2006)
- IBM PhD Fellowship Program
- Eligibility: Students must be nominated by a faculty member and have completed at least one year of the doctoral program.
- Funding: 2006-2007 fellows received a $17,500 12-month stipend, and all tuition and fees.
- Duration: three years, subject to a competitive annual renewal
- Application Deadline: October 31, 2006.
- Hertz Foundation Fellowship
- Eligibility: Applicants
must be US citizens or permanent residents who are graduating college
seniors or current graduate students
- Funding: 2006-2007 fellows received $28,000 9-month stipend and all tuition paid.
- Duration: five years
- Application Deadline: October 27, 2006
- Microsoft Research Fellowhip
- Eligibility: Applicants
must attend US or Canadian universities, and preference will be given
to students completing their second or third year. Applicants
must be nominated by their department chair, with a maximum of three
applicants per department.
- Funding: 2006-2007 fellows received a $20,000 stipend, all tuition and fees, and $2000 conference travel allowance.
- Duration: two years (with possible extension of one additional year)
- Application Deadline: October 16, 2006
- Eligibility: Applicants
must be women or members of underrepresented groups who are US
citizens, permanent residents, or non-residents on F1 student visas.
- Funding: 2006-2007 fellows received a $25,000 12-month stipend and full tuition paid.
- Duration: four years subject to a renewal based on satisfactory progress
