yet another experiment from my side. Am I the only one who hates the ugly white bg that flickr offers? I have been using different things in the past like blackmagic, blackr, etc. Now, this is an experiment to see if this works without having to rely on an external site. Let's see how it goes.
The pic was shot in the evening time. It is common in India to have a tea/coffee around 5 in the evening with some hot snacks. I was sipping my cardamon spiced tea and saw this old man sitting on a bench and drinking his. He seemed lost in thought completely. I did not think twice and got a couple of shots before the ugly shutter noise from my camera disturbed him. He looked at me with a plain face. :-|
I knew I got the frame. I continued relishing the steaming hot cup of tea with some evening time deep-fried-in-oil delicacies.

This is an incredible bar in that overlooks the amazing city of Tokyo. The place was amazingly awesome, and I could see it becoming a major hangout if I lived in the city. Then again, everywhere I went I could picture as a major hangout! Can anyone figure out exactly where this was taken? These little photo mysteries don't last long around here!

I had a great time in New York!
I just got back from NYC, where I went out to get ready for the book launch event there. While there, I shot a secret video with Steve Simon (which may not be secret for long), and I went out with Cali Lewis to shoot some HDRs in Times Square! Cali is the host of Geebrief.TV - a show you should watch for sure if you like tech and spunkiness. Anyway, after shooting some HDRs, we went and had Italian food with Cali, Neil (her hubby), and my friend June Arunga. I handed Neil my camera and he shot this pic of us together…

Daily Photo: New York is Alive and Well
It's been a few years since I have been to New York, and Times Square is better than before! I was actually in New York on 9/11, so it's always good to go back to the city and see everything is still awesome. Maybe next time I come, we can all do a flash mob and hit B&H Photo for a while - that would be fun!

Daily Photo - The mysterious bridge to the fantastic forest
I think if I were in charge of building little bridges, I would give them all a fairy-tale touch. And, of course, I would put cool glowing lights all over it and other mysterious ones underneath. Even better, I'd try to make sure it was dusk all day long so there could be just a touch of ambient daylight remaining. You guys probably think I'm crazy, but I always really like that time of night when the lights first flickr on... it's a nice feeling.

This was brought up in the chat session yesterday -- Black and White HDRs! Yes, they are possible, and they are a lot of fun! I don't do it that much because I am so in love with vibrant colors.. but sometimes, on a lark, I'll do it. A young sweet girl of a poor neighbourhood.
Everytime I see this portrait, it reminds me how natural these simple people are ...
I asked her and she agreed, a bit shy uncertain at first, getting sudden such an attention but at the same time radiating an open innocent joy for us. From the age around 12, a girl is considered mariable and from that day on she is overprotected by the family till the day she marries. Almost unposible, even seen undecent, to take a photo then by an outsider certainly a man.
Taken in the Pechiamman Temple near to the center of the city, a favorite place of lots of women.
I simply love the richness of heart these simple people gives you.
A sober portrait of a young Tamil girl, one in a thousand.

Often I have to pass this Pechiamman Temple and I like to jump in to enjoy the friendly atmosphere of this small but beautiful and popular temple of a Lady-God in the middle of a poor area.
She was sitting there, her beauty offered for blessings by shaving her hair, praying and maybe a little bit another intension by seeing me ?
The upper class often looks down upon poor people forgetting that they live by them.
2/3 of India become poorer day by day while 1/3 of the rich people copy Western culture spitting on their own roots and traditions, exploiting the poor even worse than the English ever did. Indian accounts on Swiss Banks are bigger than the accounts of all other countries together. They forget that in the end they will get the bill in spite of all the bribery and corruption, the only thing they learned from the English ?
Oblgatory free education till the age of 16 is the cheapest investment to stop poverty, learning about the lowest ecologique footprint found in traditions, rediscovering cultural values as a buffer to Western mistakes to free economics from pollution .... give the people a chance to chose decent leaders and stop eating each other.

I spent the day taking photos of the place, and I was dog-tired when it was all done. Plus, my feet were hella dirty. You have to take off your shoes there. The Newsletter is Off
We sent off the free Newsletter yesterday. I notice that one of the previous newsletters was opened by over 200% of the people who were on the list! That means that most people forwarded it to at least one person. That's great. I always try to fill it with pretty pics... so they are the kinds of things that are fun to forward to people that like pretty pictures. And who doesn't like those?
Daily Photo - And then I hiked through the Autumn Trees to find the Glacier
I wasn't exactly hiking in the safest spot in the world, when I stopped to take this shot. But the tripod helped! I tend to use it like a hiking stick sometimes. I was hiking through a pretty area of southern Argentina in a bitter rainstorm. You can't see the rain here because I left the shutter open for so long, but you can see the heavy clouds, hanging just a bit over the Perito Moreno glacier.
