Veynu Narasiman's Home Page

Hi, I'm Veynu, a PhD student in the Department of Electrical/Computer Engineering at The University of Texas at Austin. I received my BS and MS degress in Electrical/Computer Engineering from UT Austin in 2004 and 2006 respectively. I also received a Bachelor of Arts degree in Plan II (a liberal arts honors program) in 2004 from UT Austin.

Research:

I am a member of the HPS research group supervised by professor Yale Patt.

My current research interests lie in designing highly efficient multi-threaded SPMD (Single Program Multiple Data) processors for use in high performance GPUs (Graphics Processing Units) as well as general pupose computing. Specifically, I am interested in addressing some of the possible problems these processors will face in the future such as thread divergence due to conditional branches, poor memory access behavior, and destructive interference between threads.

I am also interested in a number of other topics including complexity efficient micro-architectures, the compiler/microarchitecture interaction, memory latency tolerance techniques, branch prediction, and asymmetric chip multi-processors.
