If you are having no problem accessing the class web site, getting email from me or the TAs, and in all other ways, feel comfortable about your connectedness to the information being supplied via electronic form in this class, feel free to delete this message. On the other hand, if you are still having problems getting email from us, then perhaps there are some answers here. Of course, there is a catch-22. I.e., you are having sufficient problems that you never got this eamil telling you what to do if you are having problems. For those cases, the TA will make an announcement in discussion section, and you (who are reading this) will inform your buddies in the class. For those working alone and blowing off the discussion sections: Rest In Peace. Anyway, to the messages from two students: A student writes: Professor Patt,=20 You have mentioned several times in class that you have been sending out = e-mails to every one in the class in response to one of my classmates = questions. I have not received any of these e-mails and therefore wanted = to make sure i put the right e-mail address down on my Student = Information Sheet. An e-mail address that I check regularly and use for = school related purposes is Zkings2@mail.utexas.edu=20 I apologize for any inconvenience I might have caused.=20 Sincerely,=20 <> The email lists are controlled by LRC. First, you should have an ece account. Second, you should make sure the LRC has included that address in their ee306 list. See one of the LRC proctors and he/she should be able to tell you to contact for that. If you have no clue what I am talking about, please see your TA, or any of the TAs during office hours. If that still does not work, please see me. But if you are not connected to this class, things will be unnecessarily harder. Good luck with the course. Yale Patt And, from another student: Dear Dr. Patt, I have been trying to forward my ece e-mail account to my e-mail account that I use mroe frequently (karthik15mk@mail.utexas.edu), but when I type in the command to forward it a message comes up that says cannot create exceeds disk quota. I would appreciate it if you could give me a solution to this problem. Your student, <> If you want to forward your ece email to some other address, the simplest way I know is to have the mail stopped as it comes in and sent directly to where you want it to go. The way to do that most simply in my view is to construct a file, called .forward in your ece home directory. In that file, you have only one line of text: the address where you want the mail sent. Suppose I wanted my mail sent to dumbo@mit.com. Then in my ece account, I make a file, which I call .forward, and contains only one line: dumbo@mit.com. Mail coming for patt@ece.utexas.edu will subsequently be redirected to dumbo@mit.com. And, there will never be any mail in my ece mailbox. Got it? If not, ask your TA. Having told you that, I should also tell you that you might consider using your ece account as your most frequently used account. You are an ece student, and will find as your college career develops that you need to access more and more resources within ece. It is a simple first step to make the habit of using your ece account. ...but, it is up to you. Yale Patt
