[Chapin 4] TG of Springfield, formerly of Windsor Conn. CC had 4 children by each husband (first husband was Nathaniel Bliss [Gilbert1 50]). Married NB 26 November 1630; married 3rd Samuel Marshfield 28 December 1664 (his second marriage).

[Gilbert1 50] CC was widow of Nathaniel Bliss; baptized in Berry Pomery, Devonshire in 1626. Named for mother's sister, Catherine Penney. Came to NE with parents and settled in Roxbury Mass between 1635/6. 1642 moved to Springfield. Married 3rd, Samuel Marsh, who died 8 May 1692. A descendent is Henry Ward Beecher.

[Chapin xi] SC was the third of 5 children; SC and CP had 7 children. Arrived in Roxbury in 1635; 5 children came with them. Father John came with them and lived with them at one point. In 1641, SC bought a house and lot off James Howe. Became a freeman. In 1642-3, he went to Springfield -- probably new Pynchon in England. One of 5 appointed selectmen 1644-1652 and 1661, 1664. Mrs Chapin sat with the ministers wife in the meeting house. First called deacon in record 21 February 1650. In 1652, SC was on of 3 commissioned magistrates for the administration of justice; held office until 1664. His first home lot was at the corner of Main and Pynchon. By 1664 he was living in Chicopee with his son Japhet; his holdings in Springfield were large, but were given all to his sons. October 1675 Sprinfield was attacked by Indians and burned; died 11 November 1675 at 11 pm.

[NEHGR 83:351-57] Since SC's son Josias was baptized at Berry Pomeroy, Co Devon, 29 October 1637, the migration of SC and his family must have taken place after that, but not later than 1639, when he is known to have been in Roxbury. 10 children: David, Katherin, Sara, a son, Henry, John, Honor, Josias, Japhet, and Hannah.

[NEHGR 83:351-57] JC, probably identical to John, son of Roger. PE married 2) Geroge Stone of Paignton 26 January 1600/1 at Paignton; she probably survived GS, who died between 20 January 1614/5 and 1 January 1616/7. 4 children were baptized at Paignton: Joane, Thomas, Samuel and Margaret.

[NEHGR 83:351-57] RC of Totnes, Co Devon was born probably before 1540 as he had a daughter baptized at Totnes in 1560. His widow survived him and was living 9 Sept 1590 as widdo Chapinne. There were four children recorded at Totnes: Johan, John, Margery, Margett and Luke.
