Portfolio of President of The Graduate Engineering Council (GEC) at The University of Texas at Austin

General Description

The President of the GEC has the responsibility for pursuing GEC's mission to represent engineering graduate students to the administration of the College of Engineering(COE) and the University. In addition, the President has the responsibility for planning, developing, and implementing programs to support the well-being of engineering graduate students. The President has operating authority to ensure that the GEC operates consistently with its Constitution as well as COE and University regulations.

Amplifying Points

The assignments of the President of GEC include:

. Preside over and lead all general meetings of the GEC;

. Act as the official representative of the GEC;  

. Coordinate GEC officers' responsibilities, duties and activities; 

. Appoint leadership of standing or special committees of the GEC with Executive Committee's approval;  

. Be a member of the Provost Council and attend monthly meeting with Executive Vice President and Provost Dr. Ekland-Olson; 

. Attend Engineering Dean Dr. Streetman's weekly leadership meeting; 

. Work with the Senate of College Councils, Graduate Student Assembly and other Student Government bodies as required by their rules and bylaws;

. Appoint representatives to student organizations and University offices;  

. Sit on the Senate of College Councils; 

. Be a voting member of the Graduate Student Assembly;

. Report administratively to GEC's faculty advisor(Associate Dean for Academic Affairs in the COE); 

. Be a member in selection committee* for Lockheed Martin Aeronautics Company Award for Excellence in Engineering Teaching and the Award for Outstanding Engineering Teaching by an Assistant Professor.

* The committee be composed of seven tenured faculty members ( one from each engineering department) and two student representatives(President of Graduate Engineering Council and President of Student Engineering Council).
