2/25/09

Proposals must be handed in at the beginning of class on this Thursday, Feb. 26, 2009. You are allowed up to 5 Powerpoint slides for the oral presentation, and they must be emailed to Cassandra Clarke (cclarke@mail.utexas.edu) by 1:30 PM on Thursday.

2/9/09

Pre-proposals are due at the beginning of class on Feb. 12, 2009. They should be typed and about 6 – 8 pages long, including citations and figures. The pre-proposal should identify 2 or 3 key topics you wish to study and should be organized to provide a discussion of these topics, as well as a more detailed initial stab at the key issues involved with each of your major topics. Your pre-proposal should include key references and bodies of work done in the area to date. This pre-proposal really needs to be an earnest effort to identify topics that are of interest to you that you wish to carefully analyze and learn about in the class.

Instead of providing a laptop computer for presentations on Feb. 12, all you will need to do is stand up for 1 to 2 minutes and give a quick overview of what you have pre-proposed. No slides are needed. If you wish to use a slide, please use an overhead projector slide (My assistant can help you make a black and white OHP slide).

We will have 5 minute presentations from each student on the due date of proposals, February 26, 2009.

1/29/09

Quiz in class on Tuesday, February 3. Quiz covers all reading and lecture material in first 4 lectures.
