You can choose to do a small project rather than take the final. (Remember the final
is scheduled for the last lecture, i.e., Thursday, May 2, 2002.)
If you choose to do the project, you do not have to do mini-project 3.
The due date for your project will be Thursday, May 9, 2002 before midnite.
I expect the project to be substantial; at the bare minimum, it will be two
miniprojects. You can do your with a partner, but for such projects, I will
expect a lot more than from a single person project.
Here are some ideas for projects; you are welcome to pick something
on your own.
- Survey of network processors
- Deep packet classification, keeping state of prior packets
- Switching based on Gamma networks
- Improvements to SLIP and iSLIP
- Architectures for networks that use both electronic and optical signalling
In addition, you can take any of the 4 miniprojects and flush them
out (with citations, rigorous experiments, more analytical justification, etc.),
and make a project out of them.
