Dr. Yunus is from Bangladesh, and received his PhD in economics in
1971 from Vanderbilt University while on a US Fulbright Fellowship.
In Bangladesh, Dr. Yunus founded Grameen Bank in 1976.
Dr. Yunus and the Grameen Bank received the 2006 Nobel Peace Prize
"for their efforts through microcredit to create economic and
social development from below".
