Travels - 2003

Mexico:

Grand Pyramid, Chichen Itza, Yucatan, Mexico.

View from the top of Chichen Itza's grand pyramid.

Sacred Cenote, Chichen Itza, Mexico.
This is my brother Brad in front of a huge limestone sinkhole, known as a "cenote", at Chichen Itza. They exist all over the Yucatan and many are open for swimming and diving. This particular cenote is notorious as many a young virgin were thrown in as a sacrifice to Mayan gods...

Central town square, Merida, Yucatan, Mexico
Merida was a very nice town of nearly 1 million people in the Yucatan that has strong historical ties to Spain.

Izamal, Yucatan, Mexico.
This town about 30 km off the main Cancun-Merida highway is known for its colonial past and uniformally yellow buildings. It also has a very large, but unrestored, Mayan pyramid.

Santuario de la Virgen de Izamal church, Izamal, Mexico.
