Aerial view of Auckland from "One Tree Hill". Yes, the one from the U2 song.
Prof. Mike O'Sullivan and Prof. Cameron Walker at the University of Auckland. Now this is the way to live the academic life: coffee hour each morning, beautiful views, totally casual... I can see why they say people are more relaxed "down under".
This is the view from my office for the week in the Engineering Science building at the University of Auckland. A bit better you'd have to say that my non-view in the Engineering Science (ENS) building at UT Austin.
A cruise on Auckland's large harbor.
Out in "the bush" northwest of Auckland.
I like these trees, they are a strange cross between a palm tree and a fern. A bit like New Zealand itself, they seem to be a mix between a south pacific island and a temparate European forest.
One of New Zealand's many fine wineries.
My co-hosts Siobhan and Croi in the park near Auckland museum.
Sydney, Australia:
Bronte Beach, Sydney. This is one of a beautiful string of "Eastern Beaches" on Sydney's easy coast.
Looking back towards Bronte and Tamarama beaches on the way to Bondi (Bond - eye).
The famous Bondi Beach. It's August (i.e. February for us Northerners), so nobody is sunbathing.
The charming Parsley's Bay, near Watson's Bay.
Looking out from Parsley's Bay. Did I mention that this paradise is just a few miles from downtown Sydney?
You didn't believe me did you? Well there it is. Pictured with Moe Win.
A view of the iconic opera house from Sydney harbor
Very typical Sydney urban architecture. Reminds a bit of New Orleans with the (excessively) ornate trim, and London with the narrow footprint with no driveway.
