A student writes (about problem 6a): My group mates and I have been discussing the S1 and S0 inputs to the 2:1 MUXes, and have reached a standstill in our argument. The question hanging over our solving of the problem is as follows: is it possible for a select input to be branched to two separate MUXes? <<name withheld to protect the student who wants to know how many times> Answer: Absolutely. In fact, a logical variable can be used as input to as many logic gates as the electronics will allow. In the real world, we normally design these circuits so one logical variable can be input to up to four subsequent inputs. We call it "a fan-out of four." No matter. For 306 purposes (unless we specifically say otherwise), you can use a logical variable as input to as many gates as you wish. Good luck with the rest of the course. Yale Patt
