Tuesday, December 01, 2009 4:17 AM,

I am sorry to bother all of you with this, but we have finally gotten some
time to start running the software that checks for cheating.
I am told we have found some programs that look like clear cases of cheating.
I will be sending email to those involved to meet with me as soon as I have
had a chance to personally look carefully at the offending programs to be
certain that cheating occurred. Sometimes what looks like cheating is really
coincidence, and I have to be sure which it is. If it is cheating, my
meetings with you will not be pleasant.

You have a program due tonight (Tuesday) at midnight, and another one due on
Friday. I know the temptation if you don't have the program done. Please do
not succumb to it. Much better to take the 0 on the program than take a 0 on
the program AND drop a letter grade in the course AND establish a file in the
office of the Dean of Judicial Conduct, establishing you as a cheater. The
penalties, if you cheat, are severe.

I really hope all of you can get prog4 and prog5 done without any unauthorized
help. But given what I am told appears to be the case with prog2 and prog3,
it seems that some of you can't.

So, I am sending this email to urge you not to cheat.

For the 95% of you who would never cheat, I am sorry I have wasted more of
your time with this email.

For all of you, good luck with the rest of the course.

See you on Wednesday.
