My students,

Just a short note to welcome you to 306, and to remind you that if you
do have a laptop, it is probably a good idea to bring it to your discussion
section on Friday. If you do not have a laptop, we are going to want to know
that. I have asked the TAs to find out how many students do not have laptops
on Friday.

One thing I forgot to tell you in class today that came up in a question
from a student after class: Many of you have 306 at the end of a long day.
For some of you, you are tired and the blood sugar is low. A banana or
other piece of fruit (or candy bar, but I will not recommend that) before
class is a good way to get the blood sugar back up. You can not learn if
you can not concentrate. I also do not have a problem with students eating
in class as long as you do it quietly, discreetly, and without making a mess.
If you can handle that, feel free to eat in class. The important thing is
that it not be a distraction to the people around you.

See you in class on Monday.
