Indeed, the Longhorn Network provides free access to the digital version of
the textbook only for the first 12 days of the semester.  After that, you need
to either buy it or "opt out."  That is your choice.

As to other .pdf versions, I have been told that there are unauthorized .pdf
versions on the web that have been produced by breaking the law and violating
McGraw-Hill's copyright of the book.  I have no idea how strongly they plan to
prosecute the offenders.  Anyone using one of those does make the person 
complicit in breaking the law, so I am obviously not recommending it.

I already answered this one in my previous email.  The short answer: the 3rd
edition is a major overhaul of the book, so using either the 1st or 2nd edition
will put the user at a significant disadvantage.
