My students,

I have found out that some of you put a lot of extra effort on Lab 4
to keep the number of states small enough so you would be able to complete
Lab 5 using no more than 64 states.

If that is you, it makes sense that I recognize that accomplishment as part
of your record. So, if you complete Lab 5 and do not go beyond the limit of
64 states as stated in the original Lab assignments, you will earn extra
credit which will be part of your record for the wohle semester.

I also know that many of you will not be able to keep the total number of
states to the 64 limit. Rather than have you spend time redo Lab 4 so you
are using fewer states, and then not being able to finish Lab 5, I decided
to relax the restriction of keeping the total to 64 states in hopes of
enabling some of you to thereby be able to complete Lab 5 successfully.

My bottom line: extra credit if you get Labs 4 and 5 done and not need more
than 64 states. If you can't, spend your time getting Lab 5 done, regardless
how many states it takes. Much better to get 100% on Lab 5, done with more
than 64 states, than to try to do it 64 states and end up with a 0.

OK?
