ASPINWALL, Peter (1612-1687) (called cousin by James CLARK of Boston, 1667) & 1/wf Alice [SHARP]/MORRILL?; by 30 Mar 1645, no issue, by 8 Jun 1645; Dorchester/Boston {Reg. 47:342, 58:404; Pope's Pioneers 21; Sv. 1:70; Aspinwall Not. Rec. 17, 27; Bowen 215; Morris-Converse 129; Paine (#5) 76; Winchester (1912) 247; Woodstock 2:252, 255}
[NEHGR 47:342-346] Came from Toxteth Park, now a part of Liverpool to NE about 1630. At this time there was living in Toxteth Park, an Edward Aspinwall who may have been his father. Rev Richard Mather when he first became a teacher at Toxteth Park, lodged for a time with this Mr Edward Aspinwall. It is curious that three sons of RM and PA should have the same names: Samuel, Nathaniel, and Eleazor.
PA first lived at Dorchestor, where in May 1645 he was made a freeman [NEHGR cdrom96 3:190]. He married Alice Sharp of Boston. PA married 2) RP of Redding by John Endecott Governor. She was the daughter of Peter and Edith Palfrey of Salem. The house PA built and lived in was still standing in 1890 on Aspinwall Ave near St. Pauls Church, Brookline Mass.
PA held several town offices: surveyor, 1651-2 and 1661-2; constable in 1667. He was appointed to a committee to prevent excessive drinking and disorder in private houses and was elected 1677-8 to oversee and regulate the fences on the common field at Muddy River. Will is dated 29 November 1687, inventory is dated 9 December 1687 and was filed 20 January 1691-2 at which time his widow and son Samuel presented his will for probate.
Children: Samuel, Peter, Nathaniel, Thomas, Mehitable, Elizabeth, Eleazor, Joseph, Mary and Timothy.
[NEHGR 56(1902):97] The Aspinwall Genealogy. Compiled by Algernon Aikin Aspinwall. Washington DC. Published by the author. The Tuttle Co., Printers, Publishers and Binders, Rutland VT. 8vo pp 262.Ill. "This is purely a genealogical work, no biographical materieals having been included, excepting with reference to the earlier generations. Like many other books of the kind, it is the outcome of researches undetaken with no intention of publication. The resultant work, however, will afford great pleasure to the descendants of Peter Aspinwall, who although no the first of the Aspinwall name to come to Americal, wa sthe founder of the family in this country. The genealogy is introduced by a few pages relating to the Apinwalls in England, and to William Aspinwall who came with Winthrop."
[www.alabanza.com/Limmer/aspin4.htm] Questions PA coming in 1630. No mention of him before 1645 [dep: he is not in TGMB, only William Aspinwall is covered] when he is made a freeman. Nothing further until 1650 when he moves to Muddy River (Brookline) where with his borther in law Robert Sharpe, he buys a farm on 150 acres. Here he built his house that stood until 1891 (at that time the oldest house in Brrokline). A surveyor 1651-2, 1661-2, and constable in 1667. "The compiler believes that Alice Sharp, the first wife of Peter Aspinwall, lived until about 1661, Which would be 16 years from 1645, when we know thatshe was his wife." Will is dated 20 November 1687 and inventory is 9 December 1687. Widows death uncertain, but not living in 4 April 1701.
