[Fairfield 1:102] Born in or before 1618, was graduated from Harvard College 1642. Went to England, where from 1643 to 1663 he labored in the ministry beginning at Neatishead and Irsted. Married 1) Abigail Reynes, daughter of John of Norfolk, and had John c1645 and Abigail c 1647. In 1649, he was in Walderswich; in 1651 settled in Alby, Co Norfolk. In 1655 sent to Ireland by Cromwell and is said to have received a BD from the University of Dublin in 1656. Was back in Alby in 1662 and the following year returned to New England. After preaching for short periods in Boston and Eastchester, he was settled as pastor in Setauket, Brookhaven LI from1664 until his death. His will was proved May 1695. Doubtless it was in Ireland c 1656 that he married 2) Sarah Ludlow, daughter of Roger, and had Sarah, c1656, Timothy c1658,Daniel 1662, and Hannah c1669.

[Fairfield 1:101-2] A Merchant, came to New Haven in 1641 when his household consisted of 9 people. He was probably sa large owner of the ill-fated ``great ship'' in which he was lost in 1646. He was a man of large estate and dignified with the prefix of respect ``Mr.''. His wife Lucy, tried and fined in 1646 for offensive remarks, referred to her Pastor in England and a neighbor Mrs. Bennet cast out of the church there. She had evidently lived in Mass. Bay before coming to New Haven. Esward Parker said that Mrs Brewster had a notable pate. In late 1647, Mrs Brewster married 2) Dr. Thomas Pell and by 1650 they removed with the younger children to Fairfield. In 1654 Mrs Pell and her daughters Elizabeth and Mary were witnesses in that cause celebre, the Staples suit against Mr Ludlow, the girls being then apparently not much if at all over twenty.

Jacobus argues persuasively that Rev Nathaniel is the son of Francis and not connected at all with the Pilgrim line.
