[NEHGR 155:245-250] Francis 2 Griswold (born about 1629) was the son of Edward 1 Griswold and his first wife Margaret (---) Griswold. The given name of his wife, who came with him from Saybrook, was Sarah. She married as his second wife, Capt William 2 Bradford, and had one son, Joseph, and died about the time of Joseph's birth or soon thereafter

[Windsor1 351] FG made a freeman in 1657, and before his father left Windsor, he had removed to Saybrook and thence to Norwich, of which he was a first proprietor and an active citizen. Represented the town at the General Court from 1661 to 1671. Children: Sarah, Joseph, Mary, Hannah, Deborah, L:ydia, Samuel, Margaret, Lydia.

[Windsor1 350-1] Married 1) Margaret -- whose gravestone is the oldest monument in the Congregational graveyard, Clinton (formerly Killingworth); 2) 1672-3 Sarah widow of James Bemis of New London. EG was attorney for Mr St. Nicholas of Warwickshire, who had a house built in Windsor, and also a tract of land ``impaled''. as had Sir Richard Saltonstall. The Rev Ephraim Huit, who came also in 1639, was from the same parish (as also the Syllys family who settled in Hartford). EG had a grant of land in Poquonock to which he removed in 1649 with a few families - and outpost settlement. In 1650, he built the old fort at Springfield for Mr Pyncheon; in 1656 he was deputy from Windsor to the General Court until the reception of the charter from King Charles. Moved to Hommonoscett, west of Saybrook, in 1663, which later became called Killingworth, now known as Clinton. He was the first deputy from Killingworth and its magistrate and representative for more than 20 years. He was frequently commissioner and in 1678 was a member of the committee to establish a Latin school in New London.
