[Gillespie 226-236] One of Stamford's proprietors before the end of 1642 and was certainly in Stamford before 22 October 1645 when he purchased property from Richard Hardy. JH seems to have been an important figure in Stamford, holding various offices throughout his life: treasurer, deputy to the general court and general assembly, etc. 14 October 1669, JH was propounded as a freeman of Stamford. On 23 December 1670, first reference to JH as ``Mr.'', a title of high to induce JH to move there. His will is dated 14 April 1681 and proved 28 June 1681. He left, among other things, 12 pounds to each of his daughters, Elizabeth Turney, .... The Inventory was appraised at 312:01:06. JH and his wife Mary had nine known children: Samuel, Increase, Elizabeth, John Jr, Hannah, Bethia, Elisha, Jonathan, and Abigail.
