[423] Bethia Wells

[Horton 407] JH married BW, daughter of William Wells, Esq, on of the original 13 settlers of Southold LI. Youngest son of BH, with whom he resided and from whom he inherited the family homestead. He was the first captain of the 1st company of cavalry oiriginated in Suffolk. They were members of the Southold Church. His will is dated 21 February 1707 and he died 23 February, inventoried 23 February 1709 and valued at 304-05-03.

[Savage 2:465] Hampton 1640. Went to Southold LI in 1662. Favored Connecticut and was next year made an officer.

[NEHGR 55:302] BH, baker, was of Hampton in 1640, and sold land at Ipswich 12 March 1641. He was at Southold, 1662, and died 1681. In his will he mentions, eldest son Joseph, second son Benjamin, eldest daughter Hannah Trevalle, Joseph, son of daughter Sarah Conckling, third daughter Mary Budd, third son Caleb, fourth son Joshua, fifth son Jonathan, youngest daughter Mercy Youngs, and wife Mary executrix. Proved at Southampton 18 November 1681.

[Horton 1] BH, born in Mowsley, Leicestershire. In 1622 married 1) Anne Smith of Stanion, Northampton; married 2) Mary Langton. Embarked in the ship Swallow, Capt Jeremy Horton, Master and owner, in 1635 to 1638, and landed at Hampton Mass. He moved to New Haven in 1640 with wife Mary and 2 children, Joseph and Benjamin. Settled in Southold in October 1640.
