d. aft May 1694 | Haverhill Mass | [Hutchins1 5] |
JH first appears in the Ipswich court records December 1641 when he and John Kent sued Ruben Guppy of Salem. He was one of 91 proprietors of Newburry and had lots assigned as early as 1645 (#34); of Newberry in September 1654. On 23 November 1654 he deeded his house and land at Newberry to his wife Francis and his cattle to his daughter Elizabeth and his son William.
His principle activity seems to have been carpentry; little is known of his fishing enterprise. 22 June 1658, Haverhill awarded sawmill privileges to JH, Daniel Hendricks, and Thomas Davis. This venture may have caused him to fall into indebtedness; there were various suits with his partners. A constable from at least 1661-1664 in Haverhill; 1665 and later, he served on petit juries and in September 1668 on a grand jury; 1669070, selectman of Haverhill.
FH's will is dated 16 May 1694; inventoried 9 April 1694 {recheck this date} at 133-02-00. In 1685, JH seems to have suffered a stroke and died 6 February 1685/6; his wil is dated 24 June 1674 and was probated 30 March 1686.
Children: Elizabeth, c1636, possibly in England; William, c1638, possibly in England; Joseph, 15 November 1640, Newberry; Joseph, 10 October 1641, Newberry; Benjamn, 15 May 1643, Newberry; Samuel, c1645, probably Newberry; Love, 16 July 1647, Newberry.
[Hutchins2] In 1650, acquired property valued at 450 pounds. TH moved to Haverhill, settled on the bank of the Charles River near the mouth of ``Murrie Creek''.
