[NEHGR 35:244] Rev. John Eliot's record of church members records the marriage of Isaak Johnson, the well known captain killed in the Narroganset fight in 1675, and Elizabeth Porter.
[NEHGR 39:74-8] has a letter of IJ's on some trouble at Woodcock's Garrison. IJ, son of John, of Roxbury. Born in England, he came to Mass probably in the company of Gov Winthrop. Admitted a freeman 4 March 1635. He was of the Artillery Co. in 1645, and its captain in 1667. He was ensign of the Rocksberry military precious to 1653 and on June 13th of that year was elected captain. He married EP of Roxbury and had 6 or more children of whom the sons were John, Isaac and Nathaniel.
[Savage 2:553] Freeman 4 March 1635. Children: Elizabeth, John, Mary, Isaac, Joseph, Nathaniel. He was of artillery company 1645, its captain 1667, representative 1671; and was killed by the Indians at the head of his company in the great Narraganset fight 19 December 1675 (see Hutchinson I:299 or Mather VII:50). His will was of 8 March 1673 proved 10 February 1676 (which provides for EP and 4 children with double portion for the eldest Isaac.

Judging from the dateof his marriage JJ wa probably born about 1590. Married firsst at Ware Hertfordshire 21 September 1613, Mary Heath, who was baptized there 24 March 1593/4 and was buried there 15 May 1629. He married second, probably in NE, date unknown, Margery --, who died at Roxbury 4 November 1655. He married thrid between the date of Margery's death and 4 November 1655 and October 1656, Grace (Negus) Fawer, who was born in England, perhaps baptized at Shelton Co Bedford, 5 january 1603/4, and died at Roxbury 21/29 December 1671, the widoe of Barnabus Fawer and the sister of Jonathan and Benjamin Negus [The Genelogist 6:196-7 (1985)]
JJ wa constable of Roxbury 1630, admitted freeman 1631, and deputy to the general court 1634-38, 1642-42, 1645-53, 1656-59, thrity sessions distributed throughout twnety years. He was clerk of the Ancient and Honourable ARtillery Company, 1638-1640, surveyor general of arms, 1641-59, and received a colonial grant of 300 acres for his services.

[Savage 2:554] Roxbury, came probably with Winthrop, with wife Margery and children Isaac and Humphrey, and probably others as his will speaks of 5 children (probably the rest were daughters and all born in England). Desired admission 19 October 1630, and was made freeman 18 May 1631. A representative to the first General Court 1634 and many years following; 1638 surveyor-general of arms and ammunition. Married 2) Grace widow of Barnabas Fawer.
