[NHVR 21] DS and AS were married by Mr Gilbert. [Dickerman1 156] Capt Sherman was a master mariner, son of Rev John Sherman and Mary Launce.
[Milford 645] DS married 2nd, Martha Bradley, daughter of William and Alice (Pritchard) and widows of Samuel Munson and Eliasaph Preston. DS was a master mariner, ensign in 1686 and captain in 1700, probably of the train band.

[Dickerman1 156] Mary Launce was the second wife of the pastor at Watertown, and was a granddaughter of the Earl of Rivers, whose family were Roman Catholics. Her mother, a daughter of the Earl, married a Mr. Launce, a puritan, and herself a puritan.
[Sherman1] Married first probably Mary Gibbs the sister of John Gibbs of New Haven. Marired second Mary Launce, daughter of John and Isabella (Darcy) Launce of Penncare, Co Cornwall, England. He was a graduate of Cambridge University (AB 1629-1630, AM 1633). He came to NE in the Elizabeth from Ipswich arriving in Boston in June 1634. Was dismissed from Watertown church 29 May 1635 and came to Wethersfield Conn with the early settlers. he represented Wethersfield as Comittee Deputy in the Connecticut General Court in May 1637. He joined the Milford settlers, probably in 1640 and was first minister at Branford from 1 October 1644 to January 1646/7. He was deputy for Milford to the New haven General Court October 1643. In 1647 he was called to Watertown Mass to fill the pastorate there and continued there until his death.

[Milford 645] JS's second wife, Mary Launce, died at Watertown 9 March 1710. Rev. John arrived in 1634/5 on the Ship Elizabeth from Ipswich to Boston and was in Watertown as the assistant to Rev. George Phillips, but was dismissed in 1636 to the church in Wethersfield Conn and from there to New Haven. In 1639 he appears as a freeplanter in Milford, having lot #9 which would be near the corner of West River and West Main Streets. He was admitted to the church 8 November 1640 and dismissed on 8 August 1685 to Watertown Mass. In 1640 he was one of 5 chosen by the general court of the New Haven Colony as a magistrate and asked to represent Milford. Sometime in 1644 he settled in Branford Conn as a preacher, judge and magistrate. In 1647 he was asked to return to Watertown where he preached until his death. He was a fellow at Harvard College where he lectured for 30 years.
