The name Strong is thought to have come from le Strange by way of le Straunge. Rolad Lestrange, called the Duke of Bretaigne in an account of a joust held in the Peke of Derbyshire, at Castle Peverell, who died in 1158, would be the start of the Stronge line. John Lestrange V was summoned to Parliament,26 September 1299 and became Lord Strange. He was known in writs as ``John Lestraunge de Knokyn.
