[Savage 1:72] Dorchester 1636. Perhaps from Preston in Lancashire. Freem. 2 May 1638. Was thrown from a horse. Died 1 May 1638.
[Powers 26, Mather 54] lists Atherton as a Maj. Gen.
[NEHGR 35:67-72] Lists a line of Athertons, claims this is the line that HA came from but gives no indication of how or where (the editors note that though the claim is plausible that caution should be taken with the conjecture). HA and MW probably came in the James from Birstol in 1635. Rev. Richard Mather, in his journal of the passage mentions 100 passengers, but gives the names of few, among them Nathaniel Wales whose will was witnessed by HA who was also mentioned as his ``loving brother-in-law''. Both of them assisted Mather in nurturing the first church of Dorchester ?? into thrifty again after wo ?? many left to go to Windsor Conn. According to the Suffolk Probate records, their children were: Jonathan, Isabel, Elisabeth, Consider, Mary, Margaret, Rest, Increase, Thankful, Hope, Watching, and Patience.
