Nur & Martha's Wedding

Wedding on May 6, 2000

We got engaged on Oct. 2, 1999. In choosing our wedding date, we wanted to have it after Nur was finished teaching classes in the spring semester, but we also wanted to have it before Nur's graduate students left the Austin area for summer jobs so that they could attend the wedding. So we ended up with Saturday, May 6, which turned out to be the very next day after Nur taught his last class of the semester on Friday, May 5. The wedding was at 4pm at First E-Free church in Austin, TX, where Nur and Martha regularly attend church. Pastor David Chu (the single's pastor at the church) performed the ceremony.

Martha had four bridesmaids:
Susan Barrackman - Martha's friend that she met at college at Texas A&M
Katy Barone - Martha's sister
Mary Fortune - Martha's sister
Teresa Cavazos - Martha's friend that she roomed with for 5 years

Nur had four groomsmen:
Brad Schlichting - Nur's friend since 3rd grade
Mike Ostvig - Nur's friend from high school days
Mike Kaliski - Nur's friend that he met at Stanford University
Aaron Buesing - Nur's friend that he met at University of Minnesota

We also did one non-traditional thing which is that Nur's sister, Siv Touba, also stood up in front with the groomsmen in the wedding. She stood two steps below the rest of the groomsmen as can be seen in the pictures below. Nur is very close to his sister and wanted her to be there up front.

Our reception after the wedding was on the 17th floor of the Hyatt Hotel with a nice view of Town Lake and downtown Austin. We had a sit-down dinner. For our honeymoon, we went to Tahiti for 7 days.
