Biography and CV

I am currently an Associate Professor (and Professor, effective Sept. 1, 2013) with tenure at the University of Texas at Austin. I received my Ph.D. in Computer Science (with honor) from UCLA in 2000 and worked at IBM T. J. Watson Research Center as a Research Staff Member from 2000 to 2003. • 5/8/2013: I will receive two awards at DAC'13: DAC Top 10 Author in Fifth Decade and DAC Prolific Author Award. I will serve in the DAC'14 Executive Committee as the Tutorial Chair.
• 4/23/2013: Upcoming Keynotes to be given: the International Workshop on Logic and Synthesis (IWLS'13 in June) and the European Workshop on CMOS Variability (VARI'13 in September)
• 4/2/2013: My former PhD student Duo Ding has been selected for the 2013 ACM Outstanding Ph.D. Dissertation Award in Electronic Design Automation, to be presented at DAC'13.
• 3/25/2013: My PhD students Jhih-Rong Gao and Bei Yu have been selected to receive SPIE Education Scholarship.
• 12/19/2012: Our work on TSV stress analysis and optimizations for 3D ICs (with GTCAD) has been selected to appear at the forthcoming Communications of the ACM (CACM) Research Highlights. CACM is the flagship magazine of ACM (sent to over 100,000 members).
• 12/17/2012: Promoted to Full Professor, effective Sept. 1, 2013.
• 11/29/2012 The Senior Design team (James Boriack, Kevin Cross, John Ruiz, Kenneth Yang) I mentored won the 1st Place at the Fall'12 UT-ECE Senior Design Open House.
• 11/07/2012: My students Bei Yu and Jhih-Rong Gao won the 2nd Place at the ICCAD'12 CAD Contest in "Fuzzy Pattern Matching for Physical Verification".
• 09/12/2012: My student Jiwoo Pak won Best in Session Award at the SRC Techcon 2012.
• 09/01/2012: I am elected and will serve as Faculty Co-Chair, Asian/Asian American Faculty and Staff Association (AAAFSA), UT Austin, for a two-year term (09/12-08/14).
